The Hard Side of Missions – Prayer Update

So many times, people comment on how exciting it is that we’re moving to Panama—and it is amazing to see God move in incredible ways! But with every step of faith comes challenges, and we want to be real about the hard side of preparing for overseas missions. Maybe God will call you to missions one day, and maybe there should be a manual for this! But for now, here’s where we are and how you can pray for us.

1. Leaving Our Two Oldest Girls Behind

This is one of the hardest parts. Even though they are young adults with lives of their own, they know what it’s like to grow up in another country, and this transition is deeply emotional for all of us. Missing them is an understatement.

As a family, we decided that instead of Christmas gifts, we would take one big family trip before we move—a chance to disconnect from media, be fully present, and make lasting memories. We prayed about how to afford it, and God provided in the most unexpected way! We booked a cruise with a special price guarantee, never expecting it to actually work in our favor. But God had other plans! A rare price drop not only gave us a significant refund but also an extra discount, making it possible for our whole family to go. We are beyond grateful for this time together before such a big transition.

2. Saying Goodbye to Extended Family

Leaving behind parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and lifelong friends is another layer of this season that is hitting us hard. While we know God has called us, it doesn’t make goodbyes any easier—for us or for them.

3. Selling Everything & Packing Our Lives Into 2 Suitcases

Stuff is just stuff, but parting with everything we own has been a challenge—especially for our kids. Dwindling down our entire lives into two suitcases each is overwhelming, yet it’s a reminder that our treasure is not here on earth.

4. Spiritual Warfare is Real

We have felt the weight of sickness, health concerns, financial struggles, emotional battles, and more. The enemy would love nothing more than to discourage us, but we stand firm knowing that Jesus has already won the battle!

We don’t share these things for pity but to ask for your prayers. When God calls us to something, there is always a cost—but He is faithful, and we want to stay strong in this journey.

Would you pray with us?
🙏 For our hearts as we prepare to leave our daughters and extended family
🙏 For our kids as they adjust to leaving everything they know
🙏 For wisdom and peace in this transition
🙏 For spiritual protection and endurance

Thank you for standing with us in prayer! We love and appreciate each of you more than you know.
