This past week we celebrated not just one—but TWO birthdays in our family! And let’s just say, birthday traditions look a little different here in Panama… but that’s starting to feel pretty normal lately!
Yes, they do have birthday cakes here. And yes, they’re delicious—but definitely not what we were used to in the States. Picture this: a soft cake with a mystery middle layer that tastes kind of like toffee (surprise!) and topped with something fluffy and sweet that reminds us of marshmallow whipped cream. Not bad at all—just different.
We were this close to going the cake route… until just a few days before the birthdays, when the most glorious thing happened: we found Krispy Kreme AND Cinnabon in Panama City. Yes, dreams do come true!
So, one birthday was celebrated with a warm, gooey cinnamon roll that practically melted in our hands (and on our faces 😂), and the other? A donut tower, of course! Because when you live in another country and find a Krispy Kreme, you do what must be done. Especially for our boy who LOVES donuts!
Our big celebration day was a fun mix of walking the mall, exploring local markets, and just being together. Honestly, it was the perfect blend of “a little different” and “a lot of fun.” And honestly, that’s kind of our theme lately!
We’re so thankful to be settling in more and more. Life is still full of unexpected moments and “where do I buy this?” adventures, but the Lord is so kind, and we’re starting to feel the rhythm of this new life here.
Thanks for following our journey—even our cinnamon-roll-and-donut-filled ones!
Until next time,
The Lewis Crew
